Volunteer Opportunities

We are continually searching for dedicated volunteers who are willing to meet on a regular basis. The animals  need you. They need to be walked, bathed, brushed, played with, fed, talked to, and taught basic obedience. Any time you may have to give to them is much appreciated by the staff, and even more so by the animals themselves. Come in, take a tour, and tell us what duties you would be interested in doing. We do our best to match our volunteers with a job they enjoy the most.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities

Are you allergic to dogs and cats and still want to volunteer? Do you have a skill or service that you would like to donate? There are many volunteer opportunities with us, and not all of them require contact with the animals or a lot of time. Here are other opportunities you may be interested in:

  • Fundraising Events & Programs -- Have a knack for selling products or raffle/event tickets? Help make our events a success by either helping to sell tickets for our planned events or distributing flyers for the events and campaigns.
  • Mailings -- Help prepare our mailings by volunteering to come in and stuff envelopes.

Volunteer Hours:

8:00 am- 12:00 pm   Cleaning the building and also feeding and letting dogs out. Cat houses are also cleaned and the cats are fed. Volunteers wishing to help clean need to come during this time.

1:00 pm                       Dogs are let out into the yards and fed again. Extra shelter duties are also available at this time.

2:30 pm                       Dogs are let out one last time and then brought in for the day. The outside runs are then scrubbed down. Volunteers wishing to clean and assist with moving the dogs should come during this time.

4:00 pm                       Volunteer hours end.

Our business hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 12:30 - 4:00 but volunteers can come as early as 8:00 am and can stay until 4:00. If you are coming before we open for regular business hours, we must receive a call the business day prior so we can watch for you to arrive. We are closed to the public on Thursday and Sunday but you can volunteer on these days as long as we are notified the day before. No call is necessary if you are coming during regular business hours. First time volunteers must come in on a day we are open as we are low on staff on our closed days and do not have the time to train on proper procedures of cleaning.

Anyone interested in only grooming or socializing with the animals (no cleaning) is welcome to come between 12:00 and 2:00.  Socializing with the dogs is permitted only during times when the yards are not in use.

We understand that life can be busy so we do not contact applicants to volunteer unless we have a special event and do not have enough people signing up. Please feel free to volunteer as you have the time. Thank you again for your interest in helping the shelter and all of our furry friends here. It is appreciated more than words can express.
